CHINA 06: BEIJING-THE BIRD'S NEST STADIUM

May 26 Continued

The Bird’s Nest Stadium, in the Olympic Village, was over next destination. It was built specifically for the 2008 Summer Olympics, and was used for the opening and the closing ceremonies, athletic events and football final.

The stadium consists of two independent structures, standing 50 feet apart: a red concrete seating bowl and the outer steel frame around it.

Nearby is the National Aquatic Center, which was used for swimming events.

Many buildings in the Olympic Village were used to house teams of participants, media personnel, and administrative staff. Some of them are now being used for other purposes, including as residential units.

I came across a young woman and her child. They agreed to pose for a photograph.
